North Roast

A mountain-town roastery with cult café status and forgettable takeaway cups. We gave North Roast packaging as bold as its espresso — on materials that leave no trace.

The Challenge

Great Coffee, Invisible Cups

North Roast's cafés had queues out the door, but its takeaway cups were generic white — zero brand value per thousand serves. Worse, the cups weren't recyclable in local streams, which clashed with the roastery's low-impact ethos and drew regular customer complaints.

Our Approach

Material First, Graphics Second

We specified certified compostable board and sleeves before designing a single layout, then built the graphics around uncoated kraft textures — a deep-roast brown, a signal blue, and oversized type readable at arm's length. Every cup carries the composting story in three words.

What We Delivered

  • Cup & sleeve system — three sizes, one wrap graphic, compostable certified stock.
  • Retail bag range — whole-bean and ground bags with roast-level colour coding.
  • Café touchpoints — loyalty cards, menu boards, and window vinyl.
  • Supplier handover — artwork verified with two cup manufacturers.

The Outcome

The new cups turned every takeaway into a North Roast advert — customers started tagging the blue cups unprompted, and the roastery's wholesale team reports the bags now open doors with grocers that previously passed. Complaints about cup waste stopped within a month of the switch.
